On 14 April, the INPI (the Brazilian Patent Office) published Rule 161/2020 extending the suspension of all deadlines to April 30, 2020.
The further suspension is part of the INPI’s measures to deal with the COVID-19 crisis, which also includes temporary home office arrangements for its employees.
Under Rule 161/2020:
- Any deadlines that were in progress before March 16 will only start to run again on April 30 (or at the end of a further suspension period);
- Any new deadlines arising during the suspension period will only begin to run after April 30 (or at the end of a further suspension period).
It is still currently possible to access the INPI’s services through its online system.
